Recitals and Performances FAQs

What is the Recital Frequency?

There is a year-end recital in June, and other performance opportunities are available throughout the year, such as festivals and community outreach.  We encourage multiple performances for all students.

Do all students perform at the recital?

Yes!  At Lippert, we believe in the performative nature of music. Our June recital is a part of our curriculum and an opportunity for all students to share their hard work and achievements with friends and family. All students, including those 18 and under, participate in the June recital. Students 19 and older are encouraged to join the adult recital as well.  Speak to us for more information.  This is the best audience you will every have!

Am I old to perform at the recital?

Of course not!  There is no age limit for participation. Even graduating high school students (19 and older) are welcome. In fact, our younger students look up to the older students.  They become role models and demonstrate the results of years of music study and how it pays off.  (You can ask us about getting high school music credits too!). We have a private adult recital too.

What do I do about performance anxiety?

Performance anxiety affects most people, including public speakers, athletes and musicians. It manifests in different ways for everyone, however, is a hurdle that can be overcome. Through participation, practice, preparation, and positive self-talk, even the most nervous performers can shine and build confidence! Consult your teacher for more personalized information on how you can conquer performance anxiety.  It is important for every person to experience these life-building skills.

Will my teacher be at the recital?

Teachers take pride in supporting and preparing students for the recital, however, other obligations may prevent them from attending.  Still, there will be plenty of support from other teachers, staff members and volunteers.  We make the performance experience as comfortable as possible and remind students that this is a way to celebrate and share their achievements with friends and families.

Do I need accompaniment for the recital?

Some instruments (e.g., vocalists, violinists, flautists) require accompaniment, while others (e.g., pianists) typically do not. Students should ensure they have accompaniment and music ready well in advance, so they can practise with it.  Also, ensure the office has your music in a timely manner to prepare for the shows.  You will receive an email with deadlines. Ask your teacher to help you.

For questions regarding accompaniment, please contact us.

How do you create the recital schedule?

The schedule is designed to offer a variety of instruments, ages, and skill levels. Each recital lasts one hour, and the schedule can accommodate changes, but keeping it as is, usually works best. This provides all students an opportunity to see where their hard work will take them.

Why do I have to purchase tickets for the recital?

The reason for selling tickets for the recital is to cover the costs associated with organizing the event. These costs include venue rental, sound man, equipment, and other logistical expenses. By selling tickets, the school can ensure that the recital is a high-quality, professional event that supports the students’ performances.

By purchasing tickets in advance, it further helps organization.  In addition, we offer an early-bird discount.

Remember that performers in the under 19 shows are always free!
